Arkansas lawmakers on Friday passed a resolution condemning impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

The resolution filed by state Sen. Missy Irvin, R-Mountain View, says the articles of impeachment passed by the U.S. House of Representatives "fail to rise to the constitutional requirement of high crimes and misdemeanors." It says the articles were passed "in a rushed, bipartisan manner" and that Congress should focus on other issues, such as border security.

The Arkansas Legislative Council passed the resolution Friday. Irvin and 78 other legislators sponsored the resolution.

The resolution, which has no legal effect, will be delivered to Trump.

“I believe it is an important action to give voice to the thousands of Arkansans who are tired of seeing the political games being played in Washington with the impeachment process,” Irvin said in a news release.

The House sent articles of impeachment to the Senate on Wednesday. Trump's legal team, which includes Alan Dershowitz and Ken Starr, was announced Friday.
