Rainfall and cooler temperatures are expected to lead to beautiful fall colors this season, according to KATV meteorologist Todd Yakoubian.

More than an inch of rain fell in the Little Rock area Sunday night and temperatures dropped into the 70s.

In north Arkansas, leaves are expected to be at their most colorful in late October and early November. The west-central part of the state should see peak colors in early to mid-November. The rest of the state including south Arkansas should see peak colors in mid to late November.

Yakoubian said there's a chance that peak colors could be delayed because of a historically hot September. There were 22 days last month when temperatures reached 90 degrees or hotter in Little Rock. That tied four other years -- 1998, 1954, 1939 and 1931 -- for the most on record.
