It's considered an emergency situation. The house at the end of Jones Lane in Mayflower is at extreme risk of falling into the Arkansas River.

"Just a couple of weeks ago, all of this that's freshly dug out was solid grass," said Faulkner County Public Information Officer David Hogue, who is speaking on behalf of the homeowner.

This is all happening because a fortification of the riverbank that was put in by the Army Corps of Engineers. That fortification stops just before her property, so it has created an eddy - or swirling of river water - right in her yard.

Hogue said, "In most situations, the river just flows right past their house. There's not anything for most people that causes the river to form a big eddy that comes up into their yard and cuts away their dirt."

So much that now, a corner of the porch hangs over a small cliff above the river, and it will keep getting worse until something is done about it.

The homeowner is losing hope. "Whatever emotions you want to attach to it, she's got to the point that she doesn't want to talk to people about it anymore. She feels like there's no hope. She feels like she's just watching her house fall into the river because no body that could fix it cares to fix it," said Hogue.

So now, they're putting out a call to any public official or the Army Corps of Engineers themselves to step forward and help before it's too late. Hogue said, "We know that it's possible to fix this. She just needs some help from the people who have the authority to do it."

The homeowner did have flood insurance prior to this event, but since no water actually got inside the home, Hogue says it will not cover any damage due to this situation.
