It took an intense standoff, but police captured the person they think murdered someone in front of their Hot Springs home.

KATV cameras were there the moment police took the shooting suspect away.

Police surrounded the home before arresting Christopher Harner. Harner had been hiding just two houses down from where the murder happened.

Police suspect Harner shot and killed James David Allen Echols Wednesday night outside his home.

"I feel bad for the mother and kids,” neighbor Deborah Whiteley said. “Those kids are going to go through hard times. They saw everything."

Whiteley said her neighbor, James, went by "JD." She said JD's wife and three kids were there when he was killed.

"The little girl said, ‘go get the band-aids for daddy, daddy needs the band-aids,’" Whiteley said.

Whiteley said she brought the kids to her porch to comfort them.

"The other little boy asked me to hold him,” she said. “And I picked him up to hold him."

For several hours, blood stained the door of 333 Cooper Street.

JD's friends came by to clean up that terrible mark and replaced it with a message of love, painted on the front door.

They cheered as they watched police arrest his suspected killer.

Harner is being charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm.
