Former New Mexico education secretary named interim superintendent of Las Cruces schools

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — The former New Mexico education secretary, Karen Trujillo was named the interim superintendent for Las Cruces Public Schools.

The Las Cruces Public Schools Board accepted superintendent Greg Ewing resignation in July.

The Las Cruces Public Schools gave the following statement on his resignation:

It is standard practice that we do not comment on personnel matters. The district will continue to focus on creating a positive learning environment for students, as they remain our number one priority. We just started off a brand-new school year, and we look forward to providing the best education for students in Las Cruces Public Schools.

Trujillo was fired from being the education secretary by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham office in July.

Ewing last day as superintendent is Sept. 9.

Trujillo begins her new position on Sept. 10.
