ESPANOLA, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) -- Parents racing to get their baby help are thanking a New Mexico State Police officer for his heroic actions.
On Feb. 2, the parents of 11-month-old Elikai called police when their baby was choking. NMSP Officer Mario Herrera heard that call over his police radio.
It happened outside of Espanola, New Mexico. Herrera, who was in his patrol car, rushed to help the desperate parents driving to the hospital.
Dashcam video shows Herrera driving up to the parent’s vehicle and signaling them to pull over.
Footage shows the parents jumping out of their car as Herrera runs to help.
Herrera performed CPR on the infant. Soon after, the baby is seen responsive and clinging on to Herrera.
