The state of Texas has seen a significant decrease in cigarette smoking over the past ten years. But that decrease has in smoking has led to an increase in the number of people vaping as an alternative.

A new study done by Quotewizard looked at data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the number of cigarette smokers in each state from 2009 to 2018.

The study looked at different trends across the country on how people are consuming nicotine. Cigarettes have remained the most common tobacco product used. While more and more people are ditching cigarettes, they are opting for vaping instead.

In the state of Texas:

-There was a 19.55% decrease in cigarette smoking over the last 10 years

- Texas saw a 2.13% increase in vaping

In the state of New Mexico:

-There was a 15.08% decrease in cigarette smoking over the last 10 years

-New Mexico saw a 10.20% increase in vaping

The CDC reported cigarette smoking reached an all-time low of 13.7% of users. This decrease in cigarette use has also had a significant impact on the overall health of Americans.

The American Cancer Society reported a 2.2% drop in the cancer death rate in 2017, making it the single biggest decrease ever reported. The decline in smoking has led to a decrease in lung cancer deaths, the leading cancer killer in both men and women across the U.S.
