A 38-year-old Cheyenne man has been charged with aggravated child abuse after allegedly breaking his baby boy's leg.

Zachary Burke was arrested on Feb. 19 after his son was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with fractures to his right leg which were determined to be "non-accidental."

Burke initially told police that the boy's 2-year-old sister was jumping on the couch and fell on him, but later said that he slipped on the carpet with the boy in his arms and fell on him, according to an affidavit.

Burke also disclosed that he had pulled the baby by his right leg to move the boy closer to him on the couch and that he "was getting a little aggressive in pulling him."

Burke is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $25,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 1 at 2:30 p.m.

If convicted, Burke could face up to 25 years in prison.
