PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two Portland police officers were injured in the early hours of Saturday when their patrol car was hit by a passing motorist on I-5 near the Interstate Bridge.

In all, a total of 3 drivers were arrested for DUII and other charges, police said Saturday.

A PPB patrol car was damaged and 2 officers hurt by a passing motorist during a traffic stop on I-5 at Exit 308, January 13, 2018 (KOIN)

The officers were at that location around 12:45 a.m. because a possible drunk driver was blocking the right lane. While waiting for the tow truck, the other driver hit one of the police cars, injuring the officer inside and the sergeant outside the car.

Both officers were rushed by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment of their injuries. The sergeant was released shortly before noon and the other officer is expected to be released a bit later.

The first driver — who was arrested for DUII — was not hurt, nor was the driver of the second car, Ken Thomas Neely.

Neely, 53, was arrested and booked on 2 counts of assault, 3 counts of recklessly endangerment, reckless driving and DUII. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.

A third driver who almost crashed into another officer at the same scene was also arrested for DUII.
