Flooding damaged several homes and left cars submerged in window-deep water Sunday evening.

“I stepped into a puddle and am like 'oh boy is something leaking again?' And then I’m walking and am like 'oh my there’s a lot of water,' and I see just nothing but a gusher coming through the front and the back door and I’m thinking 'oh boy,'" said Braden Hart, who lives on the first floor of an apartment complex off Christopher Place in Jefferson City.

Hart has a vision impairment preventing him from seeing things in the distance, but he says he could hear the water flowing.

"I opened my window and saw a bunch of other people, and I looked out and I’m thinking 'oh boy this [is] awful,' cars all around were floating," he said.

Earnette Smith who lives in a different building and said he "could literally see nothing" out the window.

“Come back to the front and more water is gushing through the side of the door and then I say [I] gotta get out of here," Smith said.

“Open the front door and as I fought to get it open rushing wave came in and literally knocked me to the floor and when I fought my way up I was actually wading waist-deep in water.”

Smith said he's grateful his 8-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son weren't home at the time of the flooding, and that he was able to save his daughter's white dress she wore at a wedding.

Smith added the water penetrated more than just his home.

My peace, I felt like my peace was invaded and violated.

But he said he's grateful to still be alive.

I have my life. I’m here it could have went totally different.
Be grateful for every day, live everyday like it’s your last help anybody you can along the way, hurt nobody intentionally.

Hart said it's also important to pay attention to the weather.

“Just make sure you’re always aware of your surroundings make sure you periodically, whether it’s from your phone, or you’re watching the TV or radio make sure you’re always getting some update on the weather," Hart said.
