The Jefferson Memorial Airport has been closed by flood water for nearly four weeks. Crews are working to re-open the Jefferson City Memorial Airport.

An owner of the Jefferson City Flying Service said he estimates planes to be landing again in just one week.

Grant Shorthose is one of the owners of Jefferson City flying service who said the clean up process has been happening since last week.

He said they are trying to beat the mold in the buildings.

In the runway, the city has a snowplow churning up the mud.

Shorthose said in just one week the buildings should be cleaned out. In two weeks the buildings should be remodeled.

Shorthose estimated that in one week, during nice weather days, planes should be able to land.

The night time will be restricted due to lights that were damaged.

"So the lighting of the airport, the runway, 1, 2, and 3, 6,000 feet long, it's got parallel lights down both sides of it, so 6,000 feet of wires and transformers electrical outlets and light bulbs that need to be cleaned out, repaired anything that needs repaired," Shorthose said."

Britt Smith is the Operations Divisions Director for Jefferson City. He said he isn't sure on an exact timeline on when the airport will open.

He said he hopes planes will be able to land within one to two weeks.
