Law enforcement seized a "substantial amount of cash" and suspected marijuana from a vehicle on Monday.

Kaharri L. Ray was driving a vehicle in the 1500 block of Missouri Boulevard when a Jefferson City police officer pulled the vehicle over for a hazardous moving violation.

During the traffic stop, the Jefferson City Police Department said an officer "recognized the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and the driver."

The officer asked Ray to exit the vehicle then conducted a search of the driver and the vehicle.

In a news release, law enforcement said they found a "substantial amount of cash" inside the vehicle and on the driver’s person.

Law enforcement said they also found a large amount of what they suspect to be marijuana inside the vehicle and they believe the items in the vehicle to be consistent with distribution.

Ray was taken into custody for driving while revoked and was arrested on suspicion of distribution of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the news release, a 13-year-old was released at the scene to responding family members.

The police department is requesting charges also be filed for endangering the welfare of a child.
