An army veteran was among those hitting the streets of Salt Lake on Saturday, rallying for a cause he believes in so much – he put his own life on the line for it.

Porter Goodman was barely 18 when he went to war for his country. He deployed to Iraq for 15 months and after returning home, went on a mission and then went to school.

But soon, he felt the need to return to the Middle East after seeing the chaos being caused by ISIS.

He purchased a ticket in January 2016 and traveled alone to Iraq where he was smuggled in Syria and joined the Kurdish military.

He fought alongside the Kurdish forces for 6 months until he was injured by an IED.

U.S forces airlifted him out.

Today he rallied a little closer to home alongside Kurdish families in their quest for peace.
