'It was amazing': Bystander saved Salt Lake City woman from house fire

(KUTV) — A bystander was credited Tuesday for saving a woman's life after a fire sparked at a Salt Lake City home.

It happened at approximately 9 a.m. near 300 E. Herbert Ave.

"It was just seconds," said Erin Jarrett, a neighbor driving by at the time.

If he hadn’t gotten her I don’t know what would’ve happened.

Jarrett said she was heading home from dropping her child off at school when she saw flames flying from the window of a home a man trying to pull a woman out of.

“He just kept screaming out her ‘get out get out’ and he was pulling her out the window," said Jarrett after crews put out the flames.

She said the bystander was visiting from California, but didn't learn much more about him.

I watched him risk his life to get in there and pull her out. It was amazing.

Fire crews tell 2News the woman was taken to the hospital.

The extent of her injuries were unknown at the time.

A cause of the fire has not been determined.

Neighbors say the woman lived in the home alone and kept to herself.

On Tuesday afternoon caution tape surrounded the home.

The power company shut off power to the home, according to fire officials.

The disaster cleanup team reported the home was uninhabitable following the fire.
