The most prestigious adult figure skating event in the United States is taking place at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex on Wednesday through April 6.

The U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships started in 1995 as a chance for skaters of all ages and levels to compete among their peers.

Jeremy Abbott, an Olympic bronze medalist and four-time U.S. Champion, is hosting the opening ceremonies on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m., according to a press release.

On Saturday, April 6, two-time and reigning World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist Nathan Chen will appear to salute his home club, Salt Lake Figure Skating.

Audience members can expect athletes of all ages to perform triple jumps and double Axel turns. In fact, some of the skaters performing the skills are older than 55.

Contestants range from 21 to 80 years of age. Many have full-time jobs, some skated as children and many are competing for the first time, a press release says.
