Uinta Brewing Company issued a voluntary recall of select varieties of its 12 oz. cans and bottles due to the presence of foreign yeast.

Uinta issued a recall of the following beer products:

  • Detour - 6-pack cans
  • Hop Nosh - 6-pack cans and bottles
  • Pack It Out - 15-pack cans
  • Cutthroat - 18-pack and 12-pack cans, 6-pack bottles
  • Golden Spike - 12-pack cans and bottles
  • Trader - 12-pack and 6-pack cans
  • 801 Pilsner - 12-pack cans
  • Wyld - 12-pack cans
  • Yard Sale - 6-pack cans and bottles
  • 801/Cutthroat Duo - 12-pack cans
  • Winter Sampler - 12-pack bottles

According to a Friday news release, Uinta stated the foreign yeast "could cause a package integrity issue over time and under certain storage conditions." The recall came from testing by the brewery and external third-party analysis confirmed the presence of the strain of yeast that affected the beer. The brewing company also stated:

Since its discovery, we have taken immediate and comprehensive steps to remove any trace of the foreign yeast from any further cross-contamination with its house yeast strains. The original source of the foreign yeast is still under investigation, though it is a naturally occurring strain that is occasionally used for brewing specific styles. There are no food safety risks with the consumption of this beer.

Uinta stated a majority of the beer affected is distributed in Utah and select varieties were shipped out of state. However, less than 10 percent of all affected beer made it to retail shelves, stated the brewing company.

For people who are in possession of any affected beer, Uinta stated it will offer a refund to those who complete its recall form with a photo of their receipt and a photo of the "best before date" on the packaging.
