Man dead after boating accident Monday on Oregon's Rogue River

SHADY COVE, Ore. – A man died Monday while boating in the Rogue River in Shady Cove.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office marine patrol deputies are investigating the death.

Just before noon, a man called 911 to report that his father was drowning.

"The caller told dispatch that that victim had gone underwater with his hand caught on the boat’s anchor rope," the sheriff's office said. "He was reportedly not wearing a life jacket."

Sheriff's office and medical personnel found the victim unresponsive in the water a 1/4 mile downstream from the Upper Rogue River Park.

An ambulance rushed the man to Providence Medford Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
