SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The Springfield City Council formally voted to approve the 13.6-acre re-zoning request for the property that is currently the location of the Patrician Mobile Home Park.

The vote passed 4-2.

The approval grants the East Game Farm Road property to be changed from “low-density residential” to “mixed-used commercial.”

This allows the property owner to develop things like a hotel and possible conference center on the site.

The request to re-zone the property was denied back in July but has left residents nervous for the lack of affordable housing options, as such a shift could leave a large number of homeowners displaced.

We spoke with a Patrician resident who bought her home a little over a year ago.

“I don't know if I can sell my home and recoup any of my investment,” said resident Joelle Sherman. “I don't know where we'd live if we were to leave. I'm by myself; my children are nearby and I'm almost 80 years old. Where do you go? This is just stunning; we're just stunned the council would do this.”

The proposing party, Richard Boyles, has not given formal dates for closing the park.

He previously told us he anticipates redevelopment in the next 5 to 10 years.
