STAYTON, Ore. - Oregon State Police want to locate a man and boy who got out of the wreckage of a car Tuesday, flagged down another vehicle and asked "to be taken to Stayton."

"OSP is checking on the welfare of the child and would appreciate any information," state police said in a statement. "Please contact the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center at 503-375-3555 or *OSP from your mobile phone."

State police said the red Honda Civic crashed just after noon on Highway 22E in the eastbound lanes, near the Stayton/Aumsville exit in Marion County. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Witnesses told state police that the driver got out of the car with a 5-year-old boy who appeared to be injured. The man flagged down a black Hyundai sedan driven by a woman with blonde hair and asked "to be taken to Stayton," police said.
