LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A man from Virginia proved he has what it takes to survive in the Arctic.

Jordan Jonas participated in History Channel's show 'Alone' where several contestants endured "incredibly cold conditions and a whole slew of new dangerous wild life, like a thriving bear population, territorial moose, packs of wolves, muskox and the stealthy porcupine. No camera crew," the History Channel wrote.

They said the last one standing wins.

That last man standing was Jonas as seen on the final episode Thursday, Aug. 22.

This season was set up around Canada's Great Slave Lake, which is the deepest lake in North America.

Each "Alone" participant brings clothing, safety, and survival gear to the Arctic. The standard items participants are given include 1 pair of high-leg hunting boots, 1 pair waterproof Arctic winter boots, 1 T-shirt (short sleeved), 1 fleece/wool shirt (a hooded fleece is acceptable), 2 wool sweaters, 6 pairs wool socks, 2 hats (brimmed, wool, fur, Arctic or baseball), 2 buffs or neck gaiter (no balaclavas), 1 shemagh OR scarf, 4 pairs of gloves (1 insulated, 1 leather work-style glove, 1 overmitt, 1 thin glove liner), 2 pairs of underwear/briefs, 1 insulated parka-style jacket (should cover back side and have a hood), 2 pair of outdoor pants/bibs (can unzip into shorts), 1 pair of fully insulated or waterproof winter pants/bibs, 1 waterproof uninsulated shell/Jacket, 2 pairs of thermal underwear (long top and bottom), 1 pair of gaiters, 1 leather belt (or synthetic equivalent), 1 toothbrush, 1 pair of eyeglasses (with proof of prescription), and 1 personal photograph (no bigger than 4x6 and one-sided).

Then they are given a master list, which they are allowed to select 10 special items.

Jonas selected a paracord, saw, ax, sleeping bag, frying pan, ferro rod, fishing line and hooks, bow and arrows, trapping wire, and multitool.

In his bio, 35-year-old Jonas said he learned to hunt, trap, fish, survive, and even thrive in good times and bad throughout the experiences in his life. This helped him kill a moose and catch fish on an icy lake.

"It's fun for me, hopefully it has been inspirational and educational on some level for you too! I look forward to sharing more in the future!" he wrote on social media. "Every once in awhile everyone should get out in the woods and force yourself it invent, adapt, and truly learn something about and integrate with the natural world. That simple, genuine existence will help you reaccess and order your priorities."

Jonas took home $500,000 for his battle against the elements.
