COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) - Third graders at Glenn O. Swing Elementary made crafts and decorated cookies with the officers. It's the fourth year for the fundraising event they call Crafts with Cops.

Teacher Jennifer Young says it's getting more popular every year and that building crafts helps to break down barriers between the police and these students.

"We got a much better response this year and some of the kids were like, 'Why would anybody want to hate the cops? They're there to help you.' So hopefully, it's making a difference and pushing together that the police aren't bad people - they're here to help you and they're on your side and working together with them and seeing that they're good people is making a difference."

The kids and cops also got to pose for pictures with Santa.

They raised about $550 dollars that goes to the department's Sleigh Bells and Sirens program.

Officers will use it to take some lucky kids Christmas shopping in their cruisers to buy gifts for their families.
