COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) — Ohio's chief law enforcement officer says the law does not protect LGBTQ employees from workplace discrimination despite Gov. Mike DeWine extending protections for LGBTQ workers.

Ohio's attorney general, Dave Yost, says the federal civil rights law prohibits discrimination based on sex, not sexual orientation. He goes on to say it's the job of Congress, not the courts, to amend the law.

Yost is supporting the Justice Department, which is asking the Supreme Court to make it OK for an employer to fire someone for being transgender.

The court is set to hear three cases on the topic.
