Kohima, August 4 (MExN): Tsüngremong, the harvest festival of Ao community was celebrated by the populace of Changtongya with merrymaking and much cheer in Kohima on August 3.

The celebration organised by the Changtongya Senso Telongjem Kohima (CSTK) was hosted by Imnatiba, Advisor, Industries and Commerce and NIDC, Labour and Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, at his official residence. The Advisor is currently a legislator for 22 Arkakong Assembly Constituency.

Speaking on the occasion, the Advisor said that the concept of the Almighty God was perceptible among the forefathers. It was revealed and re-affirmed with the advent of Christianity and the celebration Tsüngremong from earlier to present forms transcended seamlessly, he implied.

With the celebration, Imnatiba also called upon the villagers as well as the people of the constituency he represents, to come together in unity and work towards the progress of its economy.

The Advisor also donated one vehicle – a Mahindra Bolero, to the CVC to serve as conveyance during their official works.

The American Baptist International Ministries, Country Co-Coordinator for India, Reverend Taku Longkumer urged for developing a broadminded outlook in one’s interaction with the outside world as well as giving back to the society.

While the Nagas have progressed tremendously over the past few decades, he also noted that comparatively, there are more roads to be covered in context of development and progression to a ‘civilised’ society.  We should be humble in our achievement and open-minded in our daily affairs, he said.

Meanwhile, emphasising on the importance of villages in the Naga society, he also advocated their development though citizen’s initiative. Giving and going ‘back to the roots’ will directly and indirectly help a village to develop unanimity with others, while instilling a sense of belongingness in oneself, he added.

“Let the progress and development of Arkakong constituency be a model to others, so that we can contribute to the state’s economy, apart from empowering ourselves,” Reverend Longkumer exhorted.

Chairing the event along with other office bearers, CSKT president Imsensangba welcomed the gathering while Pastor Kohima Ao Baptist Church, Reverend A Chuba Jamir invoked God's blessings.

Presentations of Tsüngremong’s songs from Dimapur and Kohima Unit, elucidation of the meaning of the day to the gathering by CVC Tatar, Alemtozüng were some highlights of the event.

Toshi Imchen, Pastor, Nagaland Christian Revival Church (Ao), Kohima pronounced the benediction.
