New Dimapur Project: Empowering livelihood generation programs

Dimapur, September 19 (MExN): Fifteen women representatives of 10 SHGs from Dimapur II were trained to start small scale amla powder and tomato ketchup processing units from September 12 to 18.  

The training was conducted by Zatara Pvt. Ltd in association with the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer's welfare, GOI; Skill India, Government of India; Skill Training of Rural Youths (STRY) programme under National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) and State Agricultural Management& Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland.  

The participants were given basic knowledge on food preservation, processing, packaging, FSSAI standards and regulations, branding and marketing of their products by Sentinaro Alley and Washipong Longkumer from Zatara and Sentibenla and Tzubentula from ATMA Dimapur. A press release stated here that these 10 SHGs are a part of the 300 SHGs formed under the aegis of the New Dimapur Project. “There are many women who are capable and willing to work but often they lack the means and confidence to start an enterprise on their own but as a group they are able to share the risks and uncertainties of business, keep checks and balances and finally reap the rewards together,” the organisers stated.  

The aim of the New Dimapur Project is to support such groups through various livelihood generation programs and create a local economy where the small and medium scale industries are driven by women entrepreneurs, it further added.
