Even as Teachers’ Day celebration is round the corner, it is an annual affair that school students are found in public places with donation boxes, teachers’ day badges and car stickers of the same. However, of late some residents in Padumpukhuri, Dimapur have taken exception to students entering their private homes to seek donations for teachers’ day celebration.

“Last year also they (students) came to our home and sought donation. I’m not against such donations in public places nor do I mean to disrespect the teachers or students but entering private homes amounts to invasion of privacy,” said one resident whose child also studies in the same school, the students of which came to her home.

Another parent who preferred to remain anonymous said school authorities might do well to instruct their students to respect the privacy of individuals by avoiding seeking donations at homes in the name of teachers’ day.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5 all over the country in memory of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on his birthday and also to honour the teachers.
