A car wash fundraiser will be held on Saturday, July 6, to benefit the family of Rosemary Freeman of Overton. The fundraiser will begin at 7:00 a.m. in the Overton Park.

Organizers of the event will provide donuts to start off the morning. Later, hamburgers and hot dogs and water will be available as the morning starts to heat up. All attendees can relax while their car or truck is being washed at the park.

The benefit is to help in paying the mounting medical bills for Rosemary Freeman’s care, which now exceed $65,000. Freeman has an inoperable cancerous spinal tumor, and is confined to a wheelchair.

Last summer, Freeman spent 133 days in the hospital as many doctors and specialists tried a myriad of procedures and treatments to relieve her symptoms. But nothing has really worked.
“Even though we have insurance, some of my doctors are not in-network providers,” Freeman said. So costs to the family continue to grow.

In addition, the Freeman’s have had to retrofit their entire bathroom so that Rosemary’s wheelchair could fit through the door. She also has home health nurses and other specialists who help with her daily needs. Some of the care she receives is not covered by insurance at all, so out of pocket expenses accrue weekly.

“I love this family so much, and it breaks my heart to see them going through this,” said family friend Joe Gonzalez who is organizing the fundraiser event. “I want to do everything I possibly can to help them.”

Gonzalez has enlisted the help of individuals and local businesses for Saturday’s event. He has partnered with JustServe to recruit volunteers to help. Just Serve is also donating bottled drinking water for the event.

Overton Ace Hardware has donated a tent/tarp cover for use at the car wash. The store has also given buckets and sponges for the cause.

Town and Country Auto in Overton will have it’s employees washing vehicles at the fundraiser.

Logandale Storage and U-Haul is donating ice, water, hamburger and hot dog buns.

Gonzalez is footing the bill for the park rental, hot dogs, hamburgers, and paper products himself. “It’s the least I could do to help a friend in need,” he said.

There is no set time to end the car wash. “It’s going to get hot out there, so we want to get started early,” Gonzalez stated. “But we will stay as long as the cars keep coming.”

There is no set cost to have cars and trucks washed. Gonzalez said he did not want to tell people what they have to pay. Any donations will be gladly accepted and appreciated.

Anyone who cannot make it to the car wash might consider donating to Freeman’s gofundme page at: https://www.gofundme.com/rosemary039s-medical-bill039s-for-her-spine-cancer.
All proceeds from the car wash and the gofundme page will go directly to Freeman’s medical bills.

Anyone wishing to volunteer on Saturday by helping with food, or washing and drying cars, can contact Joe Gonzalez directly at 702-283-9660.
