The Jobs for American Graduates (JAG) program at Moapa Valley High School held a Change Drive at the school to benefit regional non-profit, Operation Underground Railroad. The drive started on Sept. 2 and continued to Sept. 13.

The Drive was a competition between the mentorship, otherwise called advisory class period, that happens once a week on Mondays. The classes are separated by grade and are alphabetical by last name. This period is meant for homework help and is sometimes used for school wide or grade assemblies.

The Change Drive was a chance for the students and teachers to help out and donate money for Operation Underground Railroad (OUR), a group which works to fight against the evils of human trafficking and child slavery. The planning for this drive started at the end of last school year and continued throughout the summer. JAG leadership board member and MVHS senior Autumn Robertson contacted local OUR supporter Erica Whitmore for help in planning the drive.

To help inspire the kids to donate, Whitmore promised a donut party to the class who brought in the most money. The winning class was the class of MVHS science teacher Lisa Cornwall at $109.50. Second place went to Dallas Larsen’s class and third place was Jeff Jensen’s class. The total raised from all the advisory classes together was $429.86.
