A large crowd of community members gathered on Thursday morning in front of a beautiful new building at the corner of Falcon Ridge Parkway and Bertha Howe Lane in Mesquite. After a year of construction, the new Mesa Valley Estates Assisted Living facility was holding its ribbon cutting ceremony.

In the moments before the ribbon cutting, Mesquite officials offered an enthusiastic welcome to the new facility.

“We have been looking forward to this for a while now,” said Mesquite Chamber of Commerce President Carol Kolsen. “Now we are here on grand opening day and just excited to have you as part of the community!”

Mesquite mayor Al Litman recollected that it was scarcely over a year ago when a similar gathering had taken place, shovels in hand, to break ground on the new construction project.

“At that time this property was just a barren piece of dirt,” Litman said. “They said it would be done in a year, and my first thought was ‘Yeah, sure!’ But here we are a year later and look at this beautiful facility! We are so glad that you are here.”

Sarah Green; Vice President of Operations for the building’s owner company, Mission Senior Living; said that she was pleasantly surprised at the tremendous support brought from the community in recent weeks as the facility has prepared to open.

“We have felt so much support from members of the community through construction and as we have been preparing for opening,” Green said. “We have been able to staff our facility with top-notch professionals and we even have volunteers lined up already to help as well. We are so excited to be in Mesquite!”

As the crowd gathered at the large front entrance to the facility, Mission Senior Living Building Manager Sal Gomez-Arozco cut the ceremonial red ribbon and allowed the public into the building for the first time.

The facility sports 78 apartment units. These include 54 assisted living units with various floor plan formats including single-room studio apartments as well as one- and two-bedroom suites.

The common areas of the building provide a sense of community in an elegant, spacious and restful setting. Amenities will include a bistro and coffee nook, movie theater and concierge, barber shop and beauty salon, a wellness center and a private medical office for visiting physicians.

Housekeeping and laundry services are included as well as transportation, exercise programs, emergency call systems in each room and full-time nursing on staff.
The facility will also feature enclosed outdoor courtyards with a grilling area, shade structure, and putting green, along with raised garden boxes.

The meal service is replete with plenty of home-style options. Residents will have their choice of four entrees on the menu each day.

Each new resident will be greeted with a special house-warming party for their invited family and friends in a private dining room in the facility. That private dining room is also available to schedule for other family gatherings such as holidays, birthdays etc.

The other 24 units are specialized Memory Care apartments. The Memory Care wing of the facility is separated from the rest of the building by double locking doors to keep residents secure. But the area is spacious and fully self-contained with its own common areas, family-style dining area and its own outdoor courtyard.

Residents are expected to start moving in to the facility in the next 30 days, Green said.
Of the total 78 units, the company already have deposits on 52 of them. Green said that about a third of those deposits came from people who already live in Mesquite. Another 1/3 of the deposits are from former Mesquite residents who, with this facility, are finally able to return back home.

“We offer services that haven’t been offered before in Mesquite,” said Green. “So a lot of residents who have had to leave the community and go to Las Vegas or St. George to receive care, are coming back here to their hometown to live.”
