The Moapa Valley Performing Arts Council opened its 2019-20 Season on Monday night, Sept. 23. And what an opening it was!

The Ron Dalley Theatre at the Moapa Valley High School was filled to capacity with an audience eager to hear that evening’s performer: well known vocalist Nathan Pacheco.
Pacheco took to the stage and immediately won the house with a performance of Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot.

Pacheco, a classically-trained tenor has sung all over the world, has recorded several albums, written some music, has collaborated with other well-known singers and has filmed several videos which he uses in his performances. He is a humble and generous performer who includes the audience in his program as the choral backup on many of the numbers – to the delight of the audience.

Audience members were first introduced to their choral role in Pacheco’s performance of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

Pacheco then invited several audience members to the stage to back him up in “From Now On” from the Greatest Showman.

An emotional journey was undertaken in the song “You Raise Me Up” which again included audience participation. The song also featured a beautiful video of his three children and wife playing the piano and singing.

The tenor then sang “More Than the Greatest Love The World Has Known” and showing his versatility he sang a song he and a friend wrote for “Avatar” (not the movie) and then brought down the house with “Amazing Grace.”

Pacheco pulled out his guitar and performed Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love.” He took the audience on a journey into the South and performed a sing-a-long of “All My Hope Is In Jesus.”

Finally, the program ended with Pacheco performing Andrea Bocelli’s hit “Time To Say Good Bye.”

But the audience would have none of it and wildly applauded in a standing ovation until he agreed to sing an encore “The Prayer” which he insisted that the audience sing-a-long with him.

This was a memorable evening in the theatre – on a simple stage, with recorded background music, all under the guidance of theatre personality Nathan Pacheco.

Also on the program, was a special recognition. Theatre Technician, Adam Hardy was awarded as the Moapa Valley Performing Arts Council Annual Honoree for his contribution to the arts in Moapa Valley.

The next performance of the season will be Barron Ryan on Monday, October 21.

These events are sponsored in part by MVPAC, Individual Partners for the Arts which include Nevada Arts Council, America First Credit Union, Grant and Laurel Bushman, Moapa Valley Telephone Company, Moapa Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Board of County Commissioners.
