Reno, NEV. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Over the last few years there has been a continuous rise in the Mormon cricket and grasshopper population across the Silver State.
If you've lived here for an extended period of time you have probably seen them at one point or another. Often times hundreds or thousands gather together at once which can cause great damage to the environment.
According to the state entomologist for the Nevada Department of Agriculture, Jeff Knight, significant numbers have been found north of Reno in the Red Rock area.
This is a problem because they can create unsafe road conditions and devastate crops.
A public meeting is scheduled for tonight at the Nevada Department of Agriculture office in Sparks. They'll discuss possible management strategies, products used for control and how you can report and manage infestations on private property.
