Western Nevada College to celebrate Earth Day all week

Western Nevada College will be holding events throughout this week to celebrate Earth Day!

Here are all the activities WNC’s Healthy Campus Committee is having during Earth Week starting Monday, April 22 to Friday, April 26:

  • April 22: Trash Mob! Kick off Earth Week with a campus cleanup! 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Rotary Plaza: The WNC Campus Community is encouraged to stop by Rotary Plaza to pick up garbage bags, then walk around campus and pick up trash and plant debris. Any trash and debris collected can be dropped off at any of the drop-off locations. Each person who picks up trash receives a raffle ticket to win any number of prizes. The top prize is a free 3-credit class.
  • April 23: “Bee Hotels, Bee Cities and How Carson City Is Buzzing Its Way to Better Health,” presented by the Carson City Chamber leadership class, Carson Tahoe Health, Southwest Gas and the Greenhouse Project, Reynolds 103 at 5:30 p.m.
  • April 25: "What We Can Do about Climate Change," presented by the Nevada Green Initiative, Reynolds 103 at 6 p.m.
  • April 26: “The Geology of Great Basin National Park,” presented by WNC Geology Professor Dr. Winnie Kortemeier, Marlette Hall (Cedar Building Room 100), 7 p.m. Join Kortemeier for an evening of geology. Dr. Kortemeier will wrap up WNC Earth Week activities with a talk and slide show presentation on the geology of Nevada's Great Basin National Park. "Great Basin National Park is an obscure gem in the National Park system. It has astounding beauty and surprisingly interesting geologic features, including Lehman Caves. I hope to share that beauty with the public and lure as many people as possible to visit the park," Kortemeier said. Seating is limited and is first come, first served.
