Whitefish Ski Resort spokesperson says they have the deepest snow depth in Montana. It’s the deepest it’s been in 25 years; they’ve averaged about 75 inches a year for the past 10 years.

“Today we’re at 110 inches and earlier this week we reached 111 inches, which is not just the deepest in the state it’s a deeper base than what we ended up with last year,” Whitefish Mountain Resort spokesperson Riley Polumbus said.

In December, the summit base depth came in below average with 52 inches. The 10-year average is about 14 inches higher.

The resort says early snowstorms left them with heavier snow and they think that’s the reason for their higher snow depth.

“This lighter and drier snow that we’ve had this week is beautiful, it’s fun to ski in and it doesn’t pile up as much,” Polumbus said.

The resort says it’s hard to tell how the rest of the season will play out, but for now, they’re enjoying it.

“This week or so it’s just been amazing, and it keeps coming,” said Whitefish resident Alex Neill. “It looks like we’re going to get more and more, so it’s going to be a great season.”
