The Pioneer League became the latest conference to cancel their nonconference football games for the 2020 season.

Montana had a game scheduled for Sept. 19 against Morehead St., but with the Pioneer League’s cancellation, the Griz will lose their second of three scheduled nonconference games. However, Morehead St. athletic director Jamie Gordon informed Montana Athletic Director Kent Haslem he intends to obtain a waiver to play the non conference game against Montana.

The University of Montana released this statement on the game against Morehead St.

"Following the Pioneer Football League's announcement on Monday to conduct a conference-only schedule for its member institutions, Morehead State director of athletics Jamie Gordon has informed Montana director of athletics Kent Haslam of his intention to obtain a waiver from the Pioneer League to play the Montana/Morehead State game as scheduled.

While understanding the state of college athletics is in flux, it remains the intention of both institutions to play the nonconference game as scheduled on September 19 in Missoula.

The University of Montana, the Big Sky Conference, its presidents and athletic directors will continue to monitor national developments and proceed in a way that ensures the health and safety of student-athletes and the community at large."

If the waiver does not go through, Montana’s lone game left not in Big Sky play is at Missouri St. on Sept. 12.
