The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) developed a new business plan that will help them with future recruitment efforts.

Just a few days after the NSP initiated 14 new men and women into their ranks, the organization says they're making changes to their business model to help with future recruitment.

"We're always in the recruiting and hiring mode and frankly it's been difficult to recruit people in general to law enforcement," said Colonel John Bolduc with the Nebraska State Patrol.

Over the years, law enforcement in the state have faced a number of issues keeping them from hiring new recruits.

"Certainly the economy has an impact on that. Certainly, there has been a lot of national rhetoric about law enforcement, much of which unfortunately is inaccurate," said Bolduc.

However, state troopers said they're hoping to make up the numbers this year as they look to fill with ranks with men and women.

"There is a special breed of man and woman who we are looking for who want to serve others," explained the colonel. "Those who are willing to work in a challenging job for the benefit of others,"

To start out, Buldoc said troopers look to follow a nationwide trend in law enforcement as they usher in a new era for recruitment.

"We realized that the trend nationwide is smaller camps, but they need to be held more frequently," said Buldoc. "So what we're trying to do is recruit the best men and women we can find to come into this profession and continue to serve this great state of Nebraska."

Enrollment is open now for the two academies this year.
