Nursing home closures have been on the rise in the state of Nebraska, and another can be added to the list.

Tri Valley Health System in Cambridge announced Wednesday that it will be closing the Cambridge Manor nursing home facility.

According to the hospital system, $143 per patient per day is how much the hospital says it's losing on the Cambridge Manor nursing home.

According to Tri Valley Health Interim CEO Keith Leudders, after all options were explored and exhausted, they decided to break the news to staff and physicians in the hospital system earlier Wednesday.

Leudders said that the government backing of the facility is just not enough to stay open.

"Doing a number of evaluations related to the reimbursement that we receive, Medicaid reimbursements is a significant challenge for us with the nursing home as well as challenges related to the aging facilities that we have and the lack of funds to ultimately improve those facilities that we have for our residents and staff," said Leudders.

According to hospital administration, the Manor is in need of over $1 million in repairs.

According to Leudders, he and his staff are currently working with Manor residents and their families to transfer the care of residents. They are also creating a plan and working with Manor employees for job placement.

The nursing home is set to close June 30.

According to the hospital system, its also losing $300,000 per year operating an independent living apartment complex in town known as the Heritage Plaza

A meeting for people in town to learn more about the nursing home facility is set for 5 p.m., Thursday, at the Cambridge Community Building.
