K. J. Hymes, who redshirted at Nevada last season, re-commits to Wolf Pack

K.J. Hymes, a former three-star recruit who redshirted last season as a true freshman, tweeted Monday he is staying at Nevada.

Hymes was among the Wolf Pack players who put their name in the transfer portal during the coaching change from Eric Musselman to Steve Alford. But he tweeted Monday he was "Here to stay" and used the hashtag #OperationPackBack, which was popularized over the weekend. Hymes was among the Wolf Pack players who took a trip to Roseville, Calif., over the weekend, presumably on a recruiting journey to keep Jordan Brown on the team.

At 6-foot-11 and 210 pounds, Hymes adds much-needed size to Nevada's roster. Only Hymes and Brown (6-11, 210) check in taller than 6-6 among scholarship players on Nevada's roster. Brown is currently in the transfer portal and has not made a decision on where he will play next season.

Hymes was a three-star recruit coming out of high school in Phoenix. He was the first commitment in Nevada's 2018 recruiting class and also had interest from Georgia Tech, Clemson, St. John’s and Santa Barbara. He played his senior season at Phoenix Hillcrest Prep, a national-level program, after three years at St. Mary's High in Arizona.

Hymes averaged 12.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks during his senior season after posting 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds during his junior campaign. A long player, Hymes could beef up his body to help stand up to the rigors required to play college ball in the post, but he has a solid post game and some touch out to 18 feet. Given Nevada's relative lack of bigs, Hymes could see playing time as a redshirt freshman next season.
