From the time he put his name in the NCAA transfer portal, Jordan Brown and his family have said there's a chance he will return to Nevada for his sophomore season.

But if the Wolf Pack is going to retain the services of the former McDonald's All-American, it will have to beat some major competition.

Dion Brown, Jordan's father, told 247Sports.com on Thursday that Kentucky, Arizona, Cal, Oregon, Baylor, Pitt, Ohio State, Saint Mary's and Louisiana-Lafayette have all reached out since his name entered the portal. Arizona and Cal were finalists for Brown before he signed with Nevada prior to his freshman season. Louisiana-Lafayette also was in the mix since Dion Brown played there.

The elder Brown said Jordan is looking to gauge the interest of other programs before making a final decision, which could include a return to Nevada. Dion Brown told 247Sports his son was going to put his name in the portal even if Eric Musselman was the team's coach. Musselman left for Arkansas and was quickly replaced by Steve Alford, whose system historically has been more friendly to big guys than that of Musselman.

At Nevada, Brown averaged 10.1 minutes per game, averaging 3.0 points and 2.1 rebounds on 50.6 percent shooting. His per-40-minute averages would have tallied out to 12 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. One of the things the 6-foot-11, 210-pound Brown liked about Nevada in the first place was his ability to play power forward rather than center, although that never materialized and the Wolf Pack doesn't have a center on its roster currently.

In fact, the only Wolf Pack player who has said publicly he is for sure returning next season is Jazz Johnson. Shamiel Stevenson, a transfer from Pitt who won't be eligible until December, is the only other scholarship player who hasn't put his name in the transfer portal or asked for a release from the Wolf Pack.

Dion Brown told 247Sports.com no official visits to other schools have been set up yet and nothing on that front is imminent.

“Every day I’m hearing from someone new,” Dion Brown told 247Sports. “Something could be happening in the next two or three weeks, there’s just nothing set in stone right now."

One thing playing in Nevada's favor is the transfer rule. If Brown opts to move to another school, he'd have to sit out a season under NCAA policies. At Nevada, he'd be eligible to play next season, with the Wolf Pack almost certainly using him as a featured player. In an interview with NSN the day his son put his name in the portal, Dion Brown said "trust" would be an important key in his decision-making process.
