Calls for Newry public consultation meeting on future of breast services
Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady has called on the Department of Health to hold an additional public consultation meeting in Newry on the future of breast services.
Speaking to Newry Times, the Newry and Armagh MP said, “I welcome the fact that public consultation meetings are being held about the future of breast services and stroke services but the Department of Health must make sure they are accessible for as many people as possible.
“The future of these services is a major cause of concern in the Newry, South Down and South Armagh areas and while the public meeting on the future of stroke services is being held in the Canal Court Hotel, the closest meeting on the future of breast services is in Craigavon.
“This will create problems for many people from the Newry, south Down and south Armagh areas who may not be able to travel the distance to Craigavon and as a result will not have the opportunity to make their voice heard at these meetings,” he insisted.
“These consultation meetings should be held in areas where the proposed changes will have the most impact.
“I have written to the Department of Health urging them to add another meeting in Newry to the list of these public consultations so that as many people as possible can have their say,” Brady added.
