The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call for help Thursday afternoon, July 11, from the area of Cherum Peak, located roughly 85 miles southeast of Las Vegas.

Two men were prospecting near the peak when one collapsed, prompting a search and rescue activation.

A medical helicopter was launched after the authorities were able to locate the two men, landing in the area and proceeding on foot through the rugged and heavily tree-covered terrain with medical equipment.

Searchers arrived and found that one of the men, a 74-year-old male, died after all life-saving efforts had been exhausted.

A Ranger 1 helicopter from the Department of Public Safety was launched and used its hoisting system to remove the deceased and bring him to the medical examiner.
