'Excessive Heat Watch' in effect this week for Las Vegas valley

Despite the slight weekend reprieve, temperatures are expected to rise well into the triple-digits by Wednesday, June 12, making for the hottest temps Las Vegas has seen so far this year.

According to the National Weather Service, this means that we’re in for an Excessive Heat Watch from Tuesday morning to Wednesday evening as the high temperatures bring with them the potential for a High Heat Risk.

During those two days, the Las Vegas valley is expected to see temperatures around 105 to 110 degrees.

As of Sunday evening, the forecasted highs for Tuesday and Wednesday are 105 and 107 degrees respectively.

An Excessive Heat Watch means that the high temperatures will make heat-related illnesses possible.

After Wednesday, temperatures are expected to decrease slightly with highs remaining just over the 100-degree mark.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioned buildings and check regularly on relatives and neighbors.

Also, hikers are advised to avoid low elevation trails during the day and obey seasonal closures.
