Amazon has planted its largest fulfillment center in Nevada in North Las Vegas.

The warehouse opened in May of 2019 and is more than 850,000 square feet large. It employs more than of 1,500 people and they are still hiring.

The company opened its doors to News 3 ahead of its annual Prime Day event. This year, the event spans two days, July 15 and 16, giving its Prime members deals on a variety of products.

Last year’s Amazon Prime Day sales estimated $4.19 billion globally.

While the company rakes in profit, a strike is looming with Amazon employees in Shakopee, Minnesota. According to Bloomberg workers are planning a six-hour work stoppage on July 15. Workers say they want better pay and working conditions.

Amazon Spokesperson, Zeshan Kazmi, says North Las Vegas robotics fulfillment center employees make at least $16 per hour with full benefits.

He says rather than taking jobs away, the robotics at the fulfillment center is making work for the employees more efficient. He also says they are still hiring.

On Thursday, Amazon pledged to invest over $700 million to provide training programs for employees. The programs are set to train employees for jobs like data mapping specialist, data scientist, process improvement managers just to name a few.

According to Amazon, by the end of 2019, the company will have more than 5,500 employees in the state of Nevada. Over 4,000 of the jobs are in the Las Vegas area.
