UPDATE SUNDAY, JUNE 9| According to Trooper Buratczuk with NHP, the female passenger has succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

She has been identified as 23-year-old Jacqueline Arbarca.

Investigators have found that the Honda Civic was being driven recklessly on Blue Diamond Road when it struck a semi truck at 88 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.

No charges have been filed, and impairment is not suspected.

UPDATE, 1:50 PM | Troopers say two people are in critical condition, correcting their initial report that the crash was deadly.

According to a statement from NHP, troopers learned a Honda Civic was heading east on Blue Diamond when a semi truck hauling double trailers turned left to go south on Torrey Pines Drive.

The Honda struck the second trailer and drove under it, ripping off the roof of the car, NHP said.

The driver and front seat passenger, identified as a man and woman respectively, were taken to UMC with critical injuries.

A 3-year-old girl in a rear seat was in a child safety seat at the time, and she appears not to have any major injuries. She was taken to UMC and was alert, according to NHP.

The driver of the semi reported only minor injuries, and he was cooperating with investigators.

Troopers have reviewed nearby surveillance video, according to NHP, and they have not seen any evidence of erratic driving by either vehicle.

ORIGINAL | Authorities are responding to a deadly crash Friday on Blue Diamond Road in the southwest Las Vegas valley, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

Fire engines and ambulances could be seen on Blue Diamond blocking much of the traffic.

NHP's incident site reported the crash on the eastbound side just before 10:45 a.m. Friday. According to the agency, road closures are in effect and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

No other details were immediately available.
