Ahead of International Dog Day on Monday, Aug. 26, SmartAsset did some number crunching to find the most dog-friendly city in the nation, and Las Vegas took first prize.

In 2018, the study had Las Vegas ranked at third, but as the valley continues to offer doggie parks and restaurants and shopping centers that allow furry four-legged friends to tag along, the city jumped two spots to number one.

The valley tied for the fifth-highest number of dog parks per 100,000 residents, according to the study.

As for dog-friendly businesses, Las Vegas was 18th and 17th for most dog-friendly restaurants and shopping centers respectively.

Relatively, Las Vegas is an affordable city for dog owners as well with the median home value at $245,500.

The rest of the top five cities in the study is filled out by Tucson, Arizona, San Francisco, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Denver, Colorado.

In April, the Trust for Public Land ranked Las Vegas and Henderson in the top ten for U.S. cities with the most dog parks.

The study from SmartAsset looked at a number of factors to come up with the rankings.

These included dog-friendly business and number of dog parks as well as median home value, walk score (a factor based on the walkability of each city) and the average annual days of precipitation.
