A Las Vegas paraglider involved in a scary fall from the sky is on the road to recovery. The family of 36-year-old Amy Parker says it's a miracle she's still alive.

Dave Campbell is friends with Amy Parker. "Amy is a fighter. She is tough", he says.

Parker is recovering after falling about 50 feet as she was paragliding near the Jean Dry Lake Beds Saturday night, about 30 miles south of Las Vegas. Police say she hit a steep rocky hill.

Her friends say Parker is quite the adventurer. She's an avid rock climber. The outdoorswoman is even an expert paraglider. Her sister Ivy Pruss over the phone spoke of the paragliding accident.

"For whatever reason, her emergency parachute didn't go off in time. She fell to the ground", she says.

Parker also is a well-known Las Vegas tattoo artist who her sister says once was considered for a reality TV show. Parker also just became the mother of a baby girl in April. Parker is still at UMC Hospital facing several surgeries as she recovers.

Pruss said, "She broke a lot of bones. She broke one ankle. It's broken very badly and a bone went through the bottom of her foot."

The community is already helping parker through a Gofundme page. Campbell says his friend spent several days here at the Nevada Climbing Center practicing. The center is now holding a fundraiser for her this weekend.

Campbell said, "Amy is a really good person and is so passionate about these things. She would do it for anybody else. She would help."

Parker's family and friends say it's a miracle she is alive.

Campbell said, "We are grateful. She is alive able to recover. It's going to be a long road to recovery. She'll do it."
