Zion National Park announced Saturday evening that the popular ‘Angels Landing’ trail is closed due to a rockfall on the chains section of hike.

Officials say they received word of the rockfall late Saturday afternoon.

No one was injured or trapped, and as a precaution, the entire trail is being closed.

After an assessment on Sunday, park officials found that a minor rockfall had landed. A rock roughly the size of a refrigerator among other rocks are obstructing a very narrow section of the trail.

Several of the rocks are unstable, but due to the narrow character of the trail, it will remain closed until the rocks can be broken up and removed.

Officials anticipate the trail reopening by Friday, Nov. 22.

Visitors are urged to comply with the closure as their safety is at stake. Also, officials will need the trail unobstructed by hikers to focus on the assessment and repairs.

Angels Landing is among the world’s most renowned hiking trails, according to Utah.com.

It offers views of Zion Canyon’s rock layers which date back more than 250 million years, giving hikers a peek at the Triassic period.

In March, officials were forced to close Mt. Carmel Highway and tunnel due to a rockslide for close to a month.
