Pedestrian dies after crash near Las Vegas Convention Center

UPDATE, May 15 | The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed as 74-year-old Michael James Hellyer.

He died from blunt force trauma, according to the coroner's office, and his death has been ruled an accident.

UPDATE, April 24 | Police say the pedestrian struck by a car Tuesday morning died from his injuries.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, a 74-year-old man was crossing Paradise Road outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a 2012 BMW 750I.

He was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where he died from his injuries, LVMPD said in a statement.

The driver of the BMW stayed at the scene, and police say he did not show any signs of impairment.

ORIGINAL | A pedestrian was critically injured when struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning near the Las Vegas Convention Center, according to police.

Officers got a call around 9:30 a.m. of a pedestrian hit in the 2900 block of Paradise Road, north of Desert Inn Road, said Larry Hadfield with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

The pedestrian was taken to Sunrise, and their condition is described as critical. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police, Hadfield said.

The road is closed for the response. No other details were immediately available.
