In the shadow of the Las Vegas Strip lies one of the best-kept secrets in town: an automotive assembly line.

Shelby American builds its legendary high-performance cars and trucks on a special assembly line that it’s facility just off I-15 and Russell Road.

Stock Ford Mustangs and pick up trucks are brought here where they are torn apart, then built from the ground up with modified Shelby parts, including wheels, interiors, engines, and paint.

All of the vehicles on the assembly line are pre-ordered, and typically take about three weeks from start to finish at a sticker price of between $60,000 to $250,000, depending on the Shelby custom ‘package.’

While many locals may not realize Las Vegas is home to an automotive assembly line, car enthusiasts like Doug Pence of San Diego have discovered the treasure trove of automotive history.

“I had no idea where Shelbys were made. When we did, we actually drove our two Shelbys here. I got them parked in the lot,” he said.

Shelby American’s history in Las Vegas dates back more than a decade when it was originally located at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“The most important thing for Carroll Shelby was to have his cars built close to a race track," said Shelby American President Gary Patterson.

Shelby American eventually relocated south of the Strip when its clientele began to change.

Shelby American also has an extensive museum and offers free public tours of both the museum, and it’s assembly facility.
