Sunrise Manor and Whitney may combine to form the city of East Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Residents in the east part of the valley are hoping to become their own city met today to discuss options.

The proposal would combine the Sunrise Manor and Whitney areas to create East Las Vegas.

Supporters say their local elected officials aren't properly representing their area, but many are concerned about the financial viability of incorporating another city in the valley.

The proposal would impact an estimated 240,000 people. Backers hope to get it on the ballot for the upcoming primary in June.
