NHP handles over 100 crashes during 12 rainy, wet hours on valley freeways

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — 8:07 P.M. UPDATE | The NHP reports it's has officially handled 110 crashes on the valley freeways from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The total includes 39 injury crashes, 2 hit and run incidents, and 69 property crashes.

According to Jason Buratczuk with NHP, this number is trip the amount of crashes that NHP receives on a normal day with non-weather activity.

5:05 P.M. UPDATE | The NHP reports it has handled 97 crashes on valley freeways from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., The total includes 31 injury crashes, 64 property damage and 2 hit-and-run incidents.

crashes have been reported on roads patrolled by the Nevada Highway Patrol as of 4 p.m.

2:05 P.M. UPDATE | The scenic drive at Red Rock Canyon is closed for the rest of the day Thursday due to flooding, according to the Southern Nevada Conservancy.

12:24 P.M. UPDATE | The rain all over the valley is continuing.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports Interstate 215 and Tropicana Avenue has some lane closures for pooling water. Motorists are urged to slow down.

Water is pooling on the roadway on IR215SB/Tropicana. Water over the roadway can be hard to see, slow down to avoid hydroplaning.

ORIGINAL | Emergency responders are conducting a swift water rescue in North Las Vegas, according to police.

Photos showed Las Vegas Heavy Rescue vehicles at a wash near Carey Avenue and Pecos Road.

There was no immediate word on the situation, but police are warning people to stay away from the washes in the valley due to the heavy rain and fast-moving water.

A rescue was made by Clark County firefighters in the Durango wash in the 8700 block of Halcon Avenue about 8:45 a.m.

The CCFD technical rescue team evaluated the situation and then rescued the person to safety. The individual was transported to the hospital in stable condition, said CCFD.

Other rescues have been reported at South Jones and West Tropicana as well as Koval Lane and East Harmon. No details are yet available.

The Clark County Regional Flood District said the Las Vegas Wash was running at least 5 feet deep near Nellis Boulevard, and 6 feet deep near Desert Inn Road.

Authorities have closed the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue due to flooding on the road as well.
