Meth lab explosion leads to apartment fire near Decatur, Cheyenne

Firefighters have extinguished an apartment fire resulting from an explosion Thursday morning.

Around 8 a.m. on Thursday, North Las Vegas firefighters responded to the 3300 block of North Decatur Boulevard after receiving multiple reports of an explosion.

Crews arrived to a ground-floor unit actively burning and threatening the apartment above.

More than 50 firefighters from the North Las Vegas Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to the scene, preventing the flames from spreading to the other residences in the 8-unit complex.

Three people were injured. One of the injured was transported to University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Investigators have determined the initial explosion came as a result of an occupant manufacturing methamphetamine. The investigation is ongoing.

Several residents have been displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting those affected.
